4 EFFECTIVE TIPS TO ANSWER A TEACHING INTERVIEW

As a candidate preparing for a teaching interview, the first question that comes to mind is “Tell me about yourself”. It may be the most basic question during interviews but also the most difficult one to answer. Lengthy answers talking about their demographics and family background are considered to be generic and boring. So, one should tailor their answers and talk about their skills, qualifications and philosophies about teaching. Be creative, confident and answer honestly to questions.
Here are some tips to help you ace that interview.

1. Make it personal. The best way to answer an interview is through a personal approach. You don’t need to practice a script when answering the question “Tell me about yourself” but rather be confident. Draw attention to your skills ( TESDA Skills: baking, dressmaking, arts and crafts, graphics etc.,) community involvement (Volunteer teacher, Brigada Basa, Reading Programs) and  teaching experiences. These are some matters that will establish your qualifications as a competitive candidate. Bear in mind that there are hundreds of applicants like you trying to get that teaching position so this is your chance. Shake that anxiousness away!

2. Be specific. Panel interviewers would want to hear specific answers from you, so avoid general ones. They don’t need sugar coated answers, they need your stand on a matter. Some questions that may require specific ones are:  Salary expectations, working with colleagues and superiors, extra-curricular activities and job responsibilities.

3. Give examples. Providing examples in your answer keeps the panel of interviewers more interested in you. Be prepared for questions that seeks examples like: “What innovation would you like to introduce to our school?’ What are some factors that make up a good teacher/classroom? Give me some instances in the classroom using localization. How does ICT help in classroom instruction?

4. Research. There are some instances that the panel would ask you about the Vision-Mission and Core values of the Department of Education, it is important that you do not only memorize but understand it as well by heart. It is of course, the governing body of all educators in the country. Moreover, research about the school you wish to apply for, its achievements, administrators etc., It would help you to answer why you chose to apply to that school as well.

Good Luck!
